Helen Keller Deaf-Blind Awareness Week

Proclamation

WHEREAS,     Helen Keller is the most accomplished, respected and renowned American who was deaf-blind; and

WHEREAS,     Deaf-blindness is one of the most severe of all disabilities; and

WHEREAS,     It is in the interest of the Nebraska community to prevent the waste of human resources by encouraging the full participation of Americans with severe multi-sensory disabilities in our economy by fostering the employment of and promoting housing and recreational options for people who are deaf-blind, thus maximizing their opportunities for a productive life in the community of their choice; and

WHEREAS,     Independent living means an ability to function smoothly and easily within the structure of society, communicate with others to obtain useful information, travel freely and without fear, and have the ability to perform chores and work that are necessary for survival; and

WHEREAS,     Today, people with dual-sensory loss should have options to choose their preferred lifestyles; and

WHEREAS,     It is highly appropriate and necessary to publicize the abilities, needs and potential of our fellow citizens who are deaf-blind, or severely vision and hearing impaired, and to recognize Helen Keller as a guiding example of courage, hope, determination and achievement for other individuals who are deaf-blind.

Blind Licensee's Committee Meeting

Notice of Blind Licensee’s Committee Meeting

 

 

The Blind Licensee Committee will meet on Friday, June 15, in Lincoln, site to be determined.  This will be an all-day training including vending exhibits and presentations.   A telephone conference call option will be available for those not able to attend in person.  If the phone option or any other reasonable accommodations are needed, please contact us prior to June 1 by calling NCBVI at 402-471-2891 or 877-809-2419.  Every effort will be made to arrange the accommodation. Please note you will not be able to vote or have your attendance counted if you are on the conference call.

NCBVI Commission Board Meeting

PUBLIC NOTICE

Notice of Meeting

The Board of Commissioners to the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired will meet Saturday, May 5, 2018, beginning at 9:00 A.M.  There will not be a Focus Topic as the commissioners will be conducting the annual evaluation of the executive director.  

The meeting will be held at the Omaha State Office Building, 1313 Farnam on the Mall, Room 226, Omaha, Nebraska.  Everyone must enter the building from the east doors (13th Street). 

If reasonable accommodations are needed, please contact NCBVI at 402-471-2891 as soon as possible.  Every effort will be made to arrange the needed accommodation.  An agenda may be obtained by calling 877-809-2419 during regular business hours.
